Founders who publish one long piece a week and want it on more channels without burning out
No metric reported. Ross Simmonds, founder of Foundation, describes a 'content repurposing menu': a fixed list of formats a piece can become, each with a set creation time. His team picks a few items per piece and maps them onto the content calendar weeks ahead.
Simmonds says a single Foundation teardown can be repurposed around 30+ ways, including a Twitter thread, a LinkedIn deck, a downloadable PDF and an ebook. The team rarely has time for all of them, so the menu is used to choose a few that fit the goal. He also turns list posts on X into LinkedIn carousels.
Here is my repurposing menu. Each line is a format and how long it takes me: [e.g. X thread - 20 min LinkedIn post - 15 min LinkedIn carousel (5-7 slides) - 40 min Newsletter section - 20 min 60-second video script - 15 min] Here is a piece I just published: [paste the post, article or transcript] My audience: [audience]. My goal this month: [goal, e.g. newsletter signups]. Time I have this week: [minutes]. 1. Recommend 3 to 5 items from my menu that fit this piece best. For each, say which section of the piece it should use and why it suits that channel. 2. Make sure the total time fits what I have this week. 3. Draft only the items I approve. Use only ideas, examples and numbers that are in the piece. No hashtags, no emojis. 4. Suggest a posting order over the next 2 to 3 weeks so no two days repeat the same point. Wait for me to approve the list before you draft.
