A voice.md file plus a 'Write Like Me' skill that flags your banned words

Who it's for

Founders who want every Claude draft to start in their voice

What they report

Dan Sherrard-Smith says he tested this setup on Claude for 6 months and it consistently matches his voice. He says it takes about 20 minutes to build once. He notes Claude can't hear spoken cadence, so he recommends adding transcripts from sales and client calls.

Example

His voice.md has three parts: 5 sentences you actually wrote, 10 words you never use, and a sentence length rule (his: 'Max 12 words per sentence. One idea. Stop.').

How to do it

  1. Create a folder and select it as your Cowork folder in the Claude desktop app.
  2. Create voice.md with 5 real sentences, 10 banned words and your sentence length rule.
  3. Optionally add transcripts of you talking (sales calls, client calls).
  4. Create a Skill called 'Write Like Me' with the prompt below.
  5. Update voice.md monthly.
